Samaung Mobiles have
recently launched an addition to its Galaxy series, the Samsung Galaxy Y targeted to the young college goers or 1st time android users. While
it has made this budget (Rs. 7000-Rs. 10000) scenario a bit complicated with
this launch as Galaxy Y is now the cheapest android 2.3(gingerbread) phone
available in India. This time its competition is with its own brother, the
Samsung Galaxy Fit, which was considered the fittest in budget range of Rs.
7000 – Rs.10000.
So now, we
compare this young handset, the Samsung Galaxy Y with the already fit handset,
the Samsung Galaxy fit.
Size and
design:
Samsung Galaxy
y has a dimension of (58 x 104 x 11.5 mm) and weighs around 97.5 g. , the Galaxy
fit has dimensions of (61. 2 x 110.2 x 12.6 mm) and weighs around 108.2 gram.
Display:
Samsung Galaxy
Y has a 3.0” TFT capacitive touchscreen,
featuring a colour input of 256k and a resolution of 240x320 p, while Samsung Galaxy fit comes forward with a
little big screen of 3.3-inch
with the same resolution of 240 x 320p.
Storage:
Samsung Galaxy Fit has an internal memory of 160 MB
and while that of Samsung Galaxy Y is 180 MB. Both the handsets are expandable
to 32 GB.
Camera:
Comparing the cameras, it’s a pointless job as our
young Galaxy features a 2MP autofocus camera & Galaxy fit has a 5MP camera.
However, the pixel density of Galaxy Y is higher at 133 ppi when compared to Galaxy
fit having a 121 ppi.
Processor:
Samsung Galaxy y possesses a processor of 832 MHz which is better than Galaxy
fit’s processor of 600 MHz the main difference comes while doing multitasking
and playing games.
Connectivity:
Both the handsets are 3G enabled, Wi-Fi enabled. Galaxy y
comes with an update to Bluetooth 2.0 (Galaxy fit), as this young handset has
Bluetooth 3.0. You will see the difference in data transfer and tethering. Also,
both these handsets have an A-GPS support in them.
Battery:
Galaxy fit has a Li-Ion, 1350 mAh battery giving the handset
a 10 hrs talktime on 2G and a 6 hrs on 3G. Galaxy y lags here as it only has
a Li-lon, 1200 mAh battery giving a 9 hrs talktime on 2G and a 5 hrs talktime
on 3G.
Conclusion:
Both the handsets are similar in many aspects. Given the
differences, Galaxy fit emerges as the winner. I would recommend buying Galaxy
y only if you are going to be a 1st time android user. It has every
basic thing that a beginner would need. Especially, college going students.
Price also makes a difference, so if you can shell out 3000 bucks more you will
get all that you want with Galaxy fit.
Here is a quick comparison between both:-

SE Mix is a java based music mobile phone with featuring a 3 Inch TFT Touchscreen, 3.15 MP Camera, Wi-Fi, Expandable memory up to 32GB and good music features. Its a mid range mobile phone and its price in India is Rs.6,700. However, I do not think that this phone has much to offer, it does not have 3G connectivity also, go for it only if you are a SE Walkman phone fan :)
Display:
It features a TFT capacitive touchscreen,
with 256K colors support. The display resolution is 240 x 400 pixels on a
decently large 3.0 inches screen having a pixel density of 155 ppi. The display
features a Scratch-resistant surface. It has an accelerometer sensor for
auto-rotate and a proximity sensor for auto turn-off.
Size
and Design:
The phone is a bulky one but still has an
elegant look. It is quiet thick but yet very light. You feel like having a
powerful sound engine in your hands. It is just 95.8mm long, has a width of
about 52.8mm but quiet thick with total depth of about 14.3mm. Yet the best
part of the design is the light weight which is just 88g.
Camera:
It features a 3.15 MP having maximum image
capturing resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. It records video with maximum QVGA
resolution. The unfortunate part of the camera is the lack of autofocus and LED
flash. The lesser camera capabilities don’t make it a
high end entertainment phone.
