RIM has been in the limelight for the past few years, struggling to keep up with the pace the smart phone market is running at the moment. Recently launched Curve series has managed to make its mark at least in the Indian and South East Asian market. Hoping to strengthen there position from the Curve front BlackBerry has come out with a much faster, better built and improved featured Curve 9220. Here’s a look at the important aspects on the phone.
Size and Design:
The new curve follows very much the same layout as the old one. The three row QWERTY keyboard has an additional row of short cut keys right below it. The exterior is made of plastic but it is much better than Curve 8520. The phone has a solid built and a firm holds. It weighs’ just about 102g and has a depth of 12.7mm.
You would hardly find a BlackBerry phone with the display of today’s smart phone and the story is no different here. What we have is the ancient 65K TFT display with 320 x 240 pixels. The 2.44 inch screen has a pixel density of 164ppi.
Camera is another area where the phone disappoints quiet a bit. The 2MP camera, found as the secondary camera in most of the smart phone around is the primary camera of BlackBerry Curve 9220.
Processor and OS:
Curve 9220 sees a big improvement in the OS being the first phone to feature BlackBerry OS v7.1. A new feature of the OS is BlackBerry tag which makes use of NFC to exchange contacts, share apps to an extent and invite friends to BBM.
It follows the Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n standards and features Bluetooth v2.1 and micro USBv2.0. The phone also has support for EDGE but doesn’t feature GPS.
The phone has 512 MB of ROM and same amount of RAM. The memory card slot allows for memory extension up to 32GB.
For a device with limited features curve has a giant 1450mAH battery unit capable of providing 432 hrs of Standby time and up to 7h of talk time and 28hrs of non stop music play.
BlackBerry Curve retains all the good features of its predecessor and improves on a few fronts like OS and Wi-Fi connectivity and off course much speedy performance .However the camera and plastic exterior are still a disappointment.
