Samsung has launched the successor of its Note series of hybrid smartphone in India, the Samsung Galaxy Note II at Rs.39,990. The original Note fared quite well with the people and Samsung will surely have high hopes with the new version on board which we see in the Note II. Samsung has improved upon both the hardware and the software streams on the ‘Phablet’ and made it a next generation product with specifications at par. It looks like an elongated Galaxy SIII like the original looked like the SII.
Samsung Galaxy Note II has a 5.5 inches Super AMOLED display up from 5.3 inches Super AMOLED on the original Note. The display provides a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels@ 267 ppi bounded with Corning’s Gorilla Glass II.
The Note II has dimension as 151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm which is in fact taller and thinner than the original Note. It weighs 180gms due to a larger battery this time.
The rear camera is kept at 8 megapixels with a resolution of 3264×2448 pixels; that is the same camera on Galaxy SIII but its functionality has been revamped and thanks to the quad-core processor, the camera now shoots at light speed and has many other features apart from the ones shown on the SIII. The front camera is also there which has a 1.9 megapixel count.
Note II features a new Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A9 processor mounted on an Exynos 4412 Quad chipset and Mali-400MP as a GPU. Additionally, it has a 2 GB of RAM and Internal Storage of 16/32/64 GB’s with them being expandable up to 64 GB via micro SD card. The Exynos 4412 Quad chipset performed really well in the synthetic benchmarks and would lead the front till something like the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro collides with it.
The Galaxy Note II runs on the latest and the greatest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean stitched with Samsung’s Nature UX which has bygone a number of customizations and also will be offering new enhancements in the UI.
Note series is known for the seamless integration of S-Pen which also has undergone some changes in the Note II. The S-Pen now feels more like a pen with the increase in dimensions from 10.4 cm length and thickness of 5mm on the original Note to 11.3 cm in length and 7mm thick in Note II. Samsung has given it a rubber tip which gives a natural feel and has also worked upon its touch gesture to provide more creativity.
Apart from some of the features of the Galaxy SIII like Pop-up-play featuring in the Note II as well, it has some new features such as the ‘Air-View’ which signifies the previewing of a particular photo, video, S-Planner just by hovering the S-Pen above it. When the S-Pen is pulled out it accounts for a context menu being popped-up with shortcuts and if by chance you forget to put the pen back, the accelerometer present in the Note II will start beeping about the pen not being present. Another feature which optimises the keypad is being called as ‘one-handed use’ has made the virtual keypad smaller side to side making it easier to be handled with one hand unlike the original Note. There are many excellent apps preloaded in the Note II which use S-Pen as a creativity tool on a large scale.
It is having the usual sets of connectivity features present. The Samsung Galaxy Note II is equipped with a gigantic Li-Ion 3100 mAh battery which should provide enough juice to the Note II for better performance.
Samsung Galaxy Note II is indeed an improved product altogether and it will dominate the ‘Phablet’ arena as it has next generation technologies embedded into it’s core and with the latest OS it gains an excellent shelf-life. Overall its a future ready product which will set it’s own benchmarks as its predecessor did. The Samsung Galaxy Note II is available in Marble White and Titanium Gray colors at a best buy of Rs.39,990.
