Gionee has unveiled a smartphone in its ‘S’ series range of smartphone, named Elife S5.5 which is touted to be the world’s slimmest smartphone. The specifications boast quite an unexpected performance. Powered by an Octa-Core 1.7 GHz processor, this smartphone truly promises to cater what a power user craves for. Priced at a very amazing & unbelievable figure of INR 22,999; this smartphone hopes are tremendously high to the apex. The very prime thing that comes to the mind while noticing it is its sleek dimensions & stunning aesthetics. The S5.5 looks very stylish, durable & affirmed in magnesium alloy chassis. The edges provide overall support in handling the device properly despite the fact that it is very slim. The smartphone is backed front & rear by glass which we guess that would take fingerprints up to a major level but here, it’s nothing like that; S5.5 doesn’t take smudges.
The display is a 5’’ (1080 X 1920 pixels) Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a pixel density of 441ppi. The quality of display is excellent and produces great vivid colors with rich textures.
S5.5 has an Octa-Core 1.7 GHz processor which is fabricated at MediaTek’s chipset coupled with a primary memory of 2GB which provides all what this machine needs. Amigo 2.0 UI isn’t a thing to appreciate. It is already present on Elife E6 and the Elife E7 and it fails to impress. Hopefully, in S5.5, it is improved & works flawlessly. The smartphone is currently running on Android v4.2.2.
Coming to the camera, S5.5 has a 13 megapixel autofocus snapper with a LED which shoots quite good pictures in every condition. The only problem which the camera faces is the heating issue. After capturing couple of photos, the periphery around the camera lens heats up which is quite an issue to consider. There is also a 5 megapixel secondary camera to make video calls. S5.5 is available in different color options that are black, white, blue, pink & purple. There is a non-removable Li-ion 2300 mAh battery which can provide enough juice to make this smartphone work till a day with wireless connectivity & some multimedia use.
A feature added in S5.5 is the ‘Fake Call’ mode which can simulate a call from a number we assign it to. The smartphone is priced at INR 22,999 which is a very competitive strategy made by Gionee that can aim a direct stiff competition to the other smartphones like Canvas Knight A350 in the range. Gionee has already proved their victory by the successful E6 and E7 launches in India. The coming days will say more about the destiny of Gionee Elife S5.5 and whether the world’s slimmest is ready to drag thickheads
